So it's 11:45 right now, I'm sipping a hot chocolate and remembering that a little funny thing happened at work today that made me wonder, "Does anyone blog anymore?" and I'm not talking about the technical DIY, How-To type of blog. I'm not talking about the money making google optimised blog thats been computer generated with lots of popular keywords to generate enormouse internet traffic type blog. I'm talking about the venting, ranting, look at me look at me, self-shrine, public diary type. That's what it was all about right?
So it's 11:46 now and for me that is normally still a little early to put thought to paper..err keyboard. Usually it's when your logical left brain shuts down and the right brain kicks in; you know, just before you are impaled by the point of exhaustion, creative juices start flowing, that blogging actually feels right.
It feels right when you had a good night out; a late night out, the buzz of post clubbing activities is still ringing in your ears and its preventing you from dropping into solid uninterrupted slumber.
If the ringing in your ears occurs any earlier, I think you may be suffering from Tinnitus.
Or maybe you've had your fair share of happy peeks in life this month so today you were long overdue for an emotional trough. Those are personal blogging moments don't you think?
So tonight I'm shifting the clock forward and attempting to do this archaic practice of blogging way way early, with nothing newly significant happening in my life that I deem really worth blogging. Let's see where it goes eh?
As I stated in my intro - does anyone blog these days? Or are we busy with constantly updating facebook/twitter statuses?
Maybe the ADD/ADHD generation only has time for a quick one liner now. "Julian is speaking in third person to announce what he's doing to his friends". Today we Twitter it, Vlog it, youTube it, FaceBook it, Flickr it and we speak in third person.
There was a time when if you didn't have a mobile, you might start to feel out of the loop with your friends. There was a time when if you didn't have email, you might start to feel out of the loop with your friends. These days, instead of "whats your number?" it's not "What's your email?", it has become, "Hey are you on facebook?, I'll create an event and invite you so we can have lunch."
So I'm being slightly sarcastic but no, I'm not complaining. I'm just asking the question. Am I getting old if I still blog once in a while?
Maybe in future we wont have to tag photos in iPhoto, rate songs on iTunes, update our online 'statuses' to let everyone know what we think and do. If we don't have time to reflect and introspect now on a blog, maybe in future we wont have time to do all that social networking stuff either. We'll just have a chip that reads our thoughts and updates it into an online virtual brain so we're connected to all our friends and we won't have to say/type/write anything. Like bees, we will have a giant hive mind of collective opinions and desires.
Woh, what was in that hot chocolate?
